Information for OCD/Tourette’s & Tic Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Persons diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are likely to struggle with stress as a result of their persistent thoughts (obsessions) and irrational behavior (compulsions). This is a form of anxiety disorder in which patients feel the need to interfere or meddle with things within their immediate vicinity. As a result, this condition impairs their ability to function normally.
EEG neurofeedback can help people with OCD. By altering the brainwave patterns associated with OCD-type manners and actuations, the therapy can regulate the disordered brain. With multiple sessions, neurofeedback can eliminate the irregular obsessions or compulsions.
Tourette’s & Tic Disorder
Both Tourette’s and tic disorder involve sudden, rapid, recurrent non-rhythmic activity, which can be motor or vocal. The activity can be intermittent. In Tourette’s, both motor and vocal disturbances are present.
Neurofeedback can help Tourette’s and tic disorder. After a complete evaluation that includes a quantitative electroencephalogram (QEEG), a treatment plan is established. Progress can be slow, and a commitment to treatment is essential.
