Trauma Related Disorders

Many stress-related disorders are included in trauma. They can include Reactive Attachment Disorder, PTSD, Adjustment Disorder, Acute Stress Disorder, etc. These disorders are addressed by using neurofeedback to re-regulate the areas of the brain disrupted by the stressors.

With traumatic events, specific areas of the brain are affected. These areas hold on to the trauma and the person is “stuck” with re-living the aftereffects of their trauma. The brain’s response to trauma is preserved in a way that escapes verbal mediation efforts.

Before neurofeedback, many traumatized individuals have remarked at the frustration of their years of therapy. Additionally, the bevy of counselors have not helped with the aftereffects of trauma they continue to experience. Instead, neurofeedback first works by re-regulating the areas of the brain affected by the trauma. Then, as counseling is incorporated, the individual is empowered to overcome the destabilizing effects of the trauma and attain a more normal lifestyle.
